A member of the Class of 2016 at South Georgia State College (SGSC) graduated from college and high school within a span of two weeks.

Charles “Chas” Pridgen of Broxton, received his associate’s degree in biology May 5 and graduated from Citizens Christian Academy (CCA) in Douglas May 20. Pridgen was a Move On When Ready (MOWR) student at SGSC, which provides high school students the opportunity to take college classes for both college and high school credit.

“The Move On When Ready program is such a valuable resource for families,” said SGSC President Dr. Virginia Carson. “To have the opportunity to graduate from college and high school in the same year is a celebrated accomplishment. I commend Chas for his dedication and ultimate success.”

Pridgen was the recipient of the Freshman Academic Award at the recent SGSC Honors Day ceremony and was named to the All-Georgia Academic Team by the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. He was also an honor graduate and STAR student at CCA.

Pridgen plans to attend Mercer University in the fall with the goal of becoming a pediatrician. He has been awarded the Mercer University Presidential Scholarship, which is reserved for the top five percent of first-time students entering Mercer for the 2016-2017 academic year. He was also granted one of ten guaranteed admissions into Mercer’s School of Medicine.

SGSC congratulates Charles Pridgen on his academic accomplishments.
