South Georgia State College women’s soccer has announced the addition of six talented players to the defending GCAA Championship finalist program. Jaycee Anderson (Def; Douglas, Ga./Coffee County High School), Mariah Aspinwall (Def; Blackshear, Ga./Pierce County High School), Taylor Booth (Fwd; Jacksonville, Fla./Terry Parker High School), Allyssa Ross (Def; Savannah, Ga./Islands High School), Anessia Rucker (Fwd; McDonough, Ga./Luella High School), and Faith Shelton (Fwd; Conyers, Ga./Heritage High School) have all committed to SGSC’s soccer program for 2016-2017.

Anderson played central defense and midfield for the Coffee High School program under Coach Clay Davis. She was honored at Coffee High with the Trojan Award, the Honors Scholar Athletic Award, and the team “Hustle” Award. Anderson plans to pursue a degree in nursing. Her parents are Steven and Jessica Anderson.

Aspinwall, from Pierce County High School, is another four-year varsity starter. She also contributed to Pierce County cross-country and women’s chorus. The three-time All-Region selection and three-time Pierce County Defensive Player of the Year is the daughter of Tricia Strickland and Robert Aspinwall. She played her club soccer for GIUSA for the last three years. Strickland’s plans are to pursue a degree in nursing or through SGSC’s allied health program.

Booth, daughter of Kim and Terry Booth, is a classic striker/winger from Terry Parker High School. After a successful career with the Braves’ program under coach Adam Hett, Booth plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice and contribute on the field as well.

Ross, an honor graduate from Islands High School, was a two-time first team All-Region selection and second team All-Savannah selection as well as the Sharks’ team MVP for all four of her high school seasons. Ross was also team captain her junior and senior seasons. She will be preparing academically for a degree in occupational or speech therapy. Her mother, Susan, and brothers, Ryan and Ryker, will be cheering her on at SGSC!

Rucker, an explosive striker from Luella High School, scored 13 goals and had eight assists in 15 games this spring. She was also team MVP her sophomore year. She played under James Roberts at Luella High School, Mike Lynch at Thunder SC, and Alex Bahr with the Atlanta Fire. Rucker is the daughter of Anecca Anderson and Kevin Rucker and will pursue a degree in nursing while at SGSC.

Shelton is a three-time All-Region selection and three-time Rockdale Citizen/Heritage High School Attacker of the Year. She scored 54 career goals and led Heritage to a region title and the state quarterfinals her sophomore year. The daughter of Rolland and Roberta Shelton, she was coached at Heritage High School by Chad Suddeth and at Inter Atlanta Soccer Club by Rob Di Figlio. Shelton plans to pursue a degree in nursing at SGSC.

The Hawks begin the preseason Aug. 7 at SGSC’s Douglas Campus.
