An investigation into the suspected sale and distribution of methamphetamine led to the arrest of a Coffee County man on Tuesday, who now faces a multitude of drug-related charges.
Just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) began an investigation at a residence on Trotter Rd. in the Green Acres community of Coffee County. After making a controlled purchase of illegal narcotics from the residence, authorities identified the alleged distributor and primary resident of the home as 47-year-old Tony Fogarty.
Agents checked Fogarty through electronic data bases and also found he was, in essence, a noncompliant state probationer.
Drug agents, along with state probation officers, conducted a search of the residence and located a quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana, and prescription pills. They also located a modest amount of drug paraphernalia and drug packaging materials.
Subsequent to the investigation, Fogarty was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and two counts of possession of prescription controlled substances.
In a separate incident on June 8, agents from the DCDU assisted Douglas police in a case where 20 prescription tablets were located during a traffic stop.
The DCDU determined the tablets in question were Hydrocodone, a highly addictive prescription drug. Subsequent to the investigation and an interview with the alleged offender, 20-year-old Kenan Sellers of Douglas was charged with giving false information, DUI, open container, possession of Schedule II controlled substance, and a warrant from another jurisdiction.
