Meaghan Smith, a leader with the Bahamas U17 national team and captain of the Grand Bahamas Champions League winner Borussia Dortmund, has signed with the South Georgia State College (SGSC) women’s soccer team.

Smith was named MVP of the Bahamas U17 match against Turks & Caicos. She was also the two-time MVP of the Grand Bahama Secondary School Association where she played for the seven-time defending champion Sunland Baptist Academy.

A clear “dual threat” competitor – outstanding in the classroom and on the field – Smith has benefited from tremendous preparation with her high school coach Eon Austin and her club coaches Donnie Knowles, Mary Woodside-Knowles, Floid Giddings and Michelle Knowles. Smith’s coaches and peers have all been impressed by her rapid improvement and leadership as team captain over the past two years.

In addition to her play on the field, Smith was nominated for Sunland’s “Student Scholar of the Year” award.

Smith’s parents are Trevor & Marva Smith, and her siblings are Lauryn, Tatyana, Trevor Jr., Payton, and Haylee. Smith’s family and community are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and are excited about following her career at SGSC.

The Hawks begin the preseason Aug. 7 and open the regular season Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. against Daytona (Fla.) State College on SGSC’s Douglas Campus.
