The Southern Elite 13U baseball team completed a tremendous spring season in which they won five championships and earned a runner-up finish in another. Southern Elite finished the spring season with an overall record of 30-5-1 and, as of July 5, were ranked by USSSA as the #2 AAA team in the state of Georgia and the #6 AAA team in the nation.
Four of Southern Elite’s losses and their one tie came against Major level teams. However, they also beat four Major level teams to finish with an overall record of 4-4-1 in the highest classification. Their most notable wins against Major level teams were run ruling Georgia’s #1 ranked team, West Georgia Warriors – Miegs, by a score of 10-2 in the Championship game of the Open/Major State Tournament and beating Georgia’s #5 ranked team, East Cobb Braves, 9-7 in the quarter-finals of that same tournament.
Southern Elite got the spring season started by winning the April Showers AAA tournament in Statesboro, GA going 4-0 by outscoring their opponents 57-17 and slamming eleven homeruns as a team. They then traveled to the world-class Perfect Game complex in Lakepoint, GA to participate in the Perfect Game 13U Invitational Tournament. The young men of Southern Elite won the Championship by going 5-0 in the tournament by beating a highly ranked AAA classified team in semi-final game and a Major classified team from Tennessee in the Championship game.
Southern Elite would then go on to sweep the Georgia USSSA State Championship Tournaments by winning both the South AAA division championship in Statesboro, GA and the Open/Major division championship in Dallas, GA. Southern Elite would cap off their spring season with their fifth tournament win by claiming the PSDS Gulf States Regional Championship in Valdosta, GA where they outscored their opponents 43-7 in four games.
This is the fourth season together for this core group of Southern Elite players and they have gone from being a single A team to one of the premier AAA teams in Georgia that is also highly ranked in the nation. This spring marked SE’s first year collaboration with Team Elite South out of Albany, GA. Both organizations were able to support one another with coaching and personnel support throughout the spring season and forged a winning combination that greatly benefited the young men in both programs.
