On Thursday, July 7, 2016, at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District II Swim Meet, the City of Douglas officially named the City Pool in honor of former Parks and Recreation Director Roger Johnson.  Johnson’s family was present to witness the prestigious occasion along with city leaders, former co-workers, and hundreds of parents and swimmers of the GRPA District 2.

“Roger was dedicated to providing recreational opportunities for everyone in the community and worked tirelessly to keep the City Pool open for everyone to enjoy,” said City Manager Terrell Jacobs.  “Without his dedication, we would not have the outstanding swim team program that we have today.”

Roger Johnson passed away suddenly in November of 2014.  Johnson had been employed with the City of Douglas in the Parks & Recreation Department since March 23, 1977, giving 37 years of dedicated work to programs within the scope of the Recreation Department, ranging from parks to athletics, and especially to the City Pool, which will now be known as the Roger C. Johnson Swimming Pool.
