Carroll Carter, age 74, of Ambrose, GA passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL following an extended illness. Mr. Carter was born on May 2, 1942, in Atkinson County, GA to the late Berry Hampton Carter and Mary Lee Douglas Carter.

Survivors include: his wife, LaReeta Harper Carter of Ambrose, GA; son, Dr. Jim (Drew) Carter of Ambrose, GA; daughter, Terri (Andy) Purvis of Ambrose, GA; four grandchildren, Caden Carter, John Ashton Carter, Emily Purvis, and Drew Purvis; two brothers, Berry Austin (Florence) Carter of Lennox, GA, and Forrest (Alice) Carter of Dawson, GA; two stepdaughters, Cindy Dupree and Lori (Greg) Smith; stepson, Jim (Kristy) Dickerson; seven step grandchildren, Todd (Krista) Dupree, Matt Dupree, Kelly Dupree, Mary Margaret Smith, Zeke Smith, Trey Dickerson, and KristiAnna Dickerson; two step great-grandchildren, Skylar Dupree, and Draper Dylan Dupree; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Carter.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m at Sims Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Reedy Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Den Weniger and Rev. Paul Fulton officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
