The Douglas Stingrays won their 13th consecutive District II GRPA swim championship last week. The Rays amassed a total of 1,043 points to the distant second place of 390 points for Wayne County. Appling was third with 377 points, while Jeff Davis had 274 points. The Stingrays qualified 68 swimmers for the state meet in Tifton, with 54 of those individuals qualifying in both of their events. The team dominated the relays by winning 28 out of 30 of the four-person races. Swimmers winning both of their events were Anna Lee O’steen, Maggie Minchew, Brent Bell, Jon Vickers, Mathis McCullough, Katie Holton, Abbey Arnett, Taylor Justice, Rhett Robinson, Emory Moorman, Steven Vickers, and Hogan Doyle.

“The showing in the relays reveals the depth of our program,” commented Stingray Coach CM Jenkins. “With this many relays and people swimming at state, hopefully we can defend our state championships from the last two years and win number three.”

The GRPA State Swim Meet will be held today and tomorrow in Tifton. For more information about the Douglas Stingrays, call the Douglas Parks and Recreation Department at 912-384-5978.
