An 18-year-old faces multiple drug and other criminal charges after authorities followed a complaint of drug activity around two motels on Douglas’ north side.
Coffee County sheriff’s officials reported that Douglas police officers were dispatched to the area of North Peterson Ave. and Walker St. on July 10 in reference to a man engaged in the sale of drugs. Officers arrived and met with an individual meeting the description given in an alley between the Douglas Inn and Fountain Inn.
Authorities attempted to initiate an investigative interview with the man when he allegedly attempted to run. The officers caught up to the suspect in the parking lot of the Fountain Inn and placed him under arrest for obstructing police.
Subsequent to the arrest, the suspect, identified as Michael Jerome Williams of Douglas, was searched. DPD officers located a gun and several small bags containing what appeared to be methamphetamine and crack cocaine. Williams complained of shoulder pain and was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for a bone fracture and medically released.
The Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) was called in to investigate and positively identified the drugs located on Williams as cocaine and methamphetamine. They also noted that the serial number on the firearm had been purposely altered.
Williams faces charges of obstructing police, possession of nethamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of an article with an altered identification number, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
He was arrested at the hospital and jailed.
