Mrs. Elaine Meeks Herndon, age 85, of Douglas, GA passed on, Sunday July 17, 2016 , at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Herndon was born at Nicholls, GA on March 26, 1931 to the late Calvin Stewart Meeks, SR and Ruby Rachel Goin Meeks.

Mrs. Meeks served the Douglas community in service to the Coffee County School System and to her beloved First Baptist Church, the Elaine Herndon Sunday School Class for 25 years. Mrs. Herndon will be greatly missed at First Baptist.

Survivors include her son, John Andrew Herndon and wife Tammy of Douglas, Georgia; her daughter, Laura Lane Herndon of St. Simons Island, GA; her granddaughter, Lindsey Herndon of Cartersville, GA, and several nieces and nephews, a special friend, Sandra Sams. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Dr. John Wesley Herndon and Gary Bennett and a brother, Calvin Stewart Meeks, Jr.

The Herndon family will receive friends, neighbors and loved ones on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sims Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Calhoun and Rev. John Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
