Mrs. Johnnie Gillis Lewis, age 85, of Douglas, GA passed away Friday afternoon, September 9, 2016, at Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. Mrs. Lewis was born December 27, 1930 to the late Henry A. Gillis and the late Opal Vickers Gillis. She was also preceded in death by her husband Edsel Lewis.
Survivors include: 3 Daughters, Marcie (Eddie) Huss of Columbia, SC, Elaine Lewis (Rodney Ragsdale) and Donnell (Don) Brooks both of Douglas, GA; 1 Son, Henry Edsel Lewis of Savannah, GA; 4 Grandchildren, Jason Scott Lewis and Elton Brooks both of Douglas, GA, Wesley Huss of Columbia, SC and Kelci Ragsdale of Marietta, GA.
Funeral Services will be held Monday morning, September 12, 2016 at 11:00 A. M. at Carver Baptist Church with Rev. Verlon Griner and Rev. Philip Corbean officiating. Mrs. Lewis will be placed in the church at 10:00 A. M. to lie in state until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Carver Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Carver Baptist Church, 1080 Kamera Road Douglas, GA 31535.
