LIVESTOCK NEWS

It’s time to tag steers and heifers for the State 4-H & FFA Show which will be held in February at the Georgia National Fairgrounds. Tagging will take place on Thursday, September 22, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Coffee High School Animal Science Building. If you have a conflict with this date, please contact Mr. Michael Berry at CHS or the 4-H office at (912) 384-1402.

Also, the Coffee County Goat Show will be held on Saturday, September 24, starting at 10 a.m., at the Wiregrass Arena in Nicholls in conjunction with Nicholls Founder’s Day. Please come and support our youth involved in these events.

GEORGIA NATIONAL FAIR TRIP

The Junior/Senior 4-H trip to the Georgia National Fair will be on Tuesday, October 11. The fee for the trip is $2, or $18 if you would like to purchase the armband for rides. This does not include any meals or snacks. You will be responsible for your own meals. Sign up deadline is Monday, September 26.

For more information on the Georgia National Fair, you may contact the fair at (800)987-3247, or (800) YUR-FAIR or visit their web site at georgianationalfair.com.

“PICK UP THE TAB” PROJECT

Georgia 4-H members have been collecting pop tabs off soda cans for the past fifteen years. The proceeds from the sale of these tabs have gone to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities across the state of Georgia. Ronald McDonald Houses located in Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Macon, and Savannah provide low cost lodging for family members of critically ill children receiving care at designated hospitals in these cities. This year’s can tab collection should put Georgia 4-H over the $100,000 level of donations to the Ronald McDonald House Charities in this fifteen year period.

Although this project is run through the 4-H program, everyone in Coffee County is asked to collect their can tabs and contribute them to this cause. This is a very worthwhile cause and benefits residents of Coffee County who may have children having long-term medical treatment near one of these hospitals. So Coffee County, will you help “PICK UP THE TAB”?

4-H HOLIDAY CARD CONTEST

4-H members, if art is your thing, we have a contest for you.  All budding artists are encouraged to create a drawing for the Georgia 4-H Holiday Card Artwork Contest. Entries must be turned in to the Coffee County 4-H office by 4 p.m. on September 30. The rules are: drawing must be student’s original work and drawn on an 8½ x 5½ inch (or 5½ x 8½ inch) sheet of white, unlined paper; it must include 4 H in the theme and be a universal holiday theme; it must be colorful; it must be accompanied by an official entry form available from the 4 H office. If you don’t follow these rules, the drawing will be disqualified.

All 4 H members are eligible to participate.  Please contact the 4-H staff at 912-384-1402 if you have any questions about this contest.

If you have questions about the Coffee County Extension or 4-H program, please feel free to contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402. Remember, we are YOUR local connection to the University of Georgia.
