Students at Indian Creek joined in celebrating Constitution Day on Friday, Sept. 16. Many students showed their patriotism by dressing in red, white, and blue. Local attorney, Mrs. Julee-Brooke Lewis, visited Mrs. Jaime Taylor’s class and talked with kindergarteners about the importance of our U.S. Constitution. After examining a replica, the students wrote and signed their own constitution.
It goes something like this:
“We the kids of Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Stacy’s Class…In order to learn and have fun, we will follow the rules and be kind to one another. We will take care of one another and be a good friend. We will be free to learn, have fun, and have friends. We will make our parents, our school, and our teacher proud! We declare this for the class in C-9 at Indian Creek Elementary.”
What a wonderful place our country would be if “We the People” followed the ideas outlined in “We the Kids”!
In addition, first grade students in Mrs. Tammy Bennett’s class enjoyed learning about the Constitution on Friday as well. They enjoyed special ice cream bars (thanks Mrs. Jessica Barber) in celebration of this special day. They also enjoyed making books that helped teach them all about the Constitution. The highlight of the day was a special art lesson where they were able to draw national symbols. Students also submitted videos telling why they are proud to be Americans in preparation for Friday’s events.
ICE Cardinals are thankful for the freedoms we enjoy and often take for granted. We are proud to be Americans. God Bless the USA!
