Joe Ray, age 88, of West Green, GA passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Ray was born on in Lumber City, Georgia on January 3, 1928 to the late Joe S. and Mamie Grindle Ray. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph S. Ray and Mamie Grindle Ray; brother, William (Bill) Ray; and daughter, Linda Ray.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Geraldine Skipper Ray of West Green, Georgia; two daughters, Carol (David) Morgan of West Green, Georgia and JoAnne (late Danny) Lewis of Douglas, Georgia; three grandchildren, Scott (Mandy) Morgan; Erin (Steven) Day; Lane (Kim) Morgan; three step grandchildren, Henry Lewis, Chase (Kristin) Lewis, and Ashton Lewis; several great-grandchildren; brother, Dudley (Joann) Ray of Braselton, Georgia; sister-in-law, Betty Ray of St. Augustine, Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

A Graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Douglas City Cemetery with Rev. Joe Lee officiating. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Still Waters Outreach (a Christian based women’s outreach center), 2699 Hwy 221 N., Douglas, Georgia 31533 or the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes, P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
