South Georgia State College (SGSC) recently became a community partner in the Supporting Sisters program through the Southeast Health District (SEHD). The Supporting Sisters program is a project to educate the community on the positive impact of breastfeeding. It also provides assistance and support to all women wanting to breastfeed.

The program is funded by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which has provided a dedicated breastfeeding room in the Educational Building on SGSC’s Waycross Campus. The room is available to SGSC students, faculty, and staff and provides mothers the opportunity to breastfeed their babies or pump milk for future use.

Pictured above, celebrating the newly formed partnership between SGSC and the SEHD, are (front row L-R) Lauren Thornton, assistant professor of nursing (SGSC); Pam Carter, women’s health coordinator (SEHD), and SGSC Interim President Dr. Ingrid Thompson-Sellers. SEHD representatives on the back row include (L-R) Mary Beth Butler, public information officer; Derek Jones, human resources director and special projects coordinator; Kristi Strickland, breastfeeding program consultant; and Megan Johns, breastfeeding program consultant.
