George Washington Carver Freshman Campus (GWCFC) had a week dedicated to showing their school spirit, otherwise known as Spirit Week. Throughout the week, students were encouraged to dress up, have fun, and get hyped in honor of the homecoming game that Friday. Students who did not dress out in excitement for the school’s upcoming homecoming game were offered the chance to advocate their Trojan pride by making posters to hang along the halls and taking pictures of the participants to display in the school’s’ weekly news show.
Monday was Tacky Tourist Day, Tuesday-Disney Day, Wednesday-Coachella Day, Thursday -Celebrity Day, and Friday was Maroon and White Day. Students took these days literal, from dressing in tutus as their favorite Disney character to taking their parents’ hippy sunglasses in recognition of Coachella Day. These dress-up days allowed students to have some enjoyment and relieve the exhaustion from the tower of work they’ve endeavored throughout the semester. During Maroon and White Day, teachers allowed students to have an incentive day.
Incentive day for students meant an entire day of relaxation, amusement, and laughter from fellow peers, with no work required. Students were given the chance to pick where on campus they wanted to spend their time and hang out with friends. Later in the afternoon students and faculty attended a pep rally hosted by the school’s art teacher, Sara Wood. The celebration consisted of lots of chanting, teachers showing off their dance moves, and even included a glimpse of the school’s principal (Abe Morris) kissing a goat.
To top off the week, our very own Coffee High Trojans won 56 to 22 against the Warner Robins Demons. Due to the win, high school students celebrated by dancing the night away during the homecoming dance. Many great memories were made and even after the school’s spirit week was over, students still couldn’t hide their Trojan Pride.
