CLOVERLEAF 4-H DANCE FUNDRAISER

Cloverleaf 4-H members are invited to the next Cloverleaf 4-H Dance Fundraiser on Thursday, November 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door, but you must purchase a 4-H wristband from your school teacher. Wristbands are required as proof that you are a 4-H member in good standing with your teacher. Concessions will be available, so bring extra money if you are interested in purchasing anything to eat or drink.

Certified Chaperons and Teen Leaders are asked to help chaperon the dance. You will be needed by 5:30 p.m. to help set up and your assistance is needed until 8:30 p.m. with student pick up.

JUNIOR/SENIOR PROJECT ACHIEVEMENT

December 1 is the deadline for Junior (7th & 8th grades) and Senior (9th-12th grades) 4-H members to submit their District Project Achievement (DPA) Portfolios for project competition. The portfolio is forty percent of the Junior 4-H member’s score at DPA with their demonstration being the remaining sixty percent. Senior 4-H member’s portfolio accounts for fifty percent of their total DPA score with the other half being their demonstration.

The Junior 4-H Portfolio must include a cover page, two typed or written pages, and one supporting material page. In the two typed or written pages, they must include their background information, main project work, main project work helping and sharing, leadership activities, community service activities, other 4-H activities, and other activities. The supporting material page can be pictures with explanation notes, copies of awards, news articles written, or any other item that gives evidence of the activities listed in your portfolio. The background section can include information prior to this calendar year, but everything else in the portfolio must have been completed during this calendar year.

The Senior 4-H Portfolio includes a cover page, a cover letter to the judge, two typed or written pages, and two supporting material pages. The cover letter is a tool of introduction and has no rules to its content. It can address any information or time as well as future goals. The next two pages will include their main project work, main project helping and sharing experiences, leadership & teen leadership activities, community service and citizenship activities, and other activities. These two pages must only include information for the current calendar year.

After completion of the portfolios, Junior and Senior 4-H members will polish up their presentations in preparation for the contest at Rock Eagle 4-H Center the weekend of January 27-29, 2017. During this weekend, 7th graders have the opportunity to seek a leadership position on the Southeast District Junior 4-H Board of Directors by campaigning and getting elected by their peers. The Senior 4-H members in 9th – 11th grades can also seek election to the Southeast District Senior 4-H Board of Directors. These are great leadership and learning experiences for these students.

4-H members gain so much personally by participating in this project competition, from learning research, organization, recordkeeping, and speaking skills to name a few. It makes them better prepared for their future endeavors, whether it may be college, military, or career. If you know of a student in 7th – 12th grades who is not participating in DPA, encourage them to take part in this great experience.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.
