Rev. Fred Smith, age 87, of Douglas, Ga. passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born on April 26, 1929, in Broxton, Ga. to the late Ma Smith and Daisy May Rowell Smith.

Survivors include: his wife, Rev. Ruby Smith of Douglas, Ga.; son, Jackie Fred Smith, Sr. of Douglas, Ga.; three daughters, Brenda Jean Copeland of Douglas, Ga., Janice McLaughlin of Macon, Ga., Sherry Giardina of Alachua, Fla.; adopted son, Rev. Darrell Smith of Waycross, Ga.; sister, Dorothy Saegert of Mississippi; three brothers, Maxell Smith of Douglas, Ga., J.H. Smith of Douglas, Ga., Wilbert Smith of Douglas, Ga.; eleven grandchildren, Jamie Brown, Victoria Kitchens, Jacquelin Kristin Taylor, Jackie Fred Smith, Jr., Tanya Allison Vaughn, Frances Bradley, Sharon Bennett, Charmagne Manning, BJ Bradley, Darrell Hinnon Smith, and Ashley Nicole McElroy; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Lisa Brown, Tammy Brown, and Kenneth Brown; and four sisters, Ruby Mae Thompson, Vera Smith, Lavada Foskey, and Eva Lee Heard.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. until at Shiloh House of Prayer. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh House of Prayer with Rev. Hubert Stanley, Rev. Darrell Smith, and Sister Ruby Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
