The Georgia Bureau of Investigation provided the following statment Monday in regards to the shooting of a motorist by a Turner County sheriff’s deputy that occurred in Cook County Sunday afternoon:

“On Sunday, January 8, 2017 the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region Four Office was requested by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved use of force incident.

Preliminary information from law enforcement agencies indicated that at approximately 5:00 p.m., Ashburn Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle south-bound on I-75 in Turner County.  The driver, identified as Erin Sean Hogue, 26 of Jacksonville, FL, refused to stop and the vehicle was pursued into Cook County.  The Georgia State Patrol assisted in the pursuit and utilized a precision immobilization technique to end the chase at milepost 40 near Adel, GA.

When law enforcement officers attempted to remove Hogue, he displayed a handgun which resulted in a Turner County Deputy firing his weapon.  Hogue was arrested and taken to Tift Regional Medical Center for a non-life threating injury.

Anyone with information or video of the incident is asked to contact the Cook County Sheriff’s Office (229-896-7471) or the GBI Douglas Office (912-389-4103).

The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.  When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Cook County District Attorney’s Office for review.”
