The South Georgia State College Hawk swimmers reported back to campus early last week for winter training and also had their first meet of 2017. After a busy week of weight workouts and two-a-day swimming sessions, the team had a good showing at the sprint meet against two four-year schools.

The SGSC women’s team won the competition by defeating University of the Cumberlands from Williamsburg, Kentucky and Thomas University. The SGSC men finished third behind first place Thomas and second place University of the Cumberlands.

Winning two events for the Hawks were Kiana Ocasio Molina from Jacksonville, Fla., in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.  Delaney Smith from Albany, Ga., won the 50 yard breaststroke while Jessica Dunton from Carrolton, Ga., won the 50 yard butterfly. Andrew Brown from Lake Placid, FL. won the men’s 200 IM event.

The Hawks will travel to West Point, Ga. for a meet at Point University on Saturday, January 14.
