Edna Ruth Smith, age 76, of Douglas, GA passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Clinch Health Care following an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was born on October 2, 1940, in Fitzgerald, GA to the late Carsey B. “Sheep” McDowell and Eva Ruth Ethridge McDowell.
Survivors include: her daughter, Lynn (Jimmy) Purvis of Nashville, GA; two sons, Michael (Tammy) Smith and Scotty (Lynn) Smith both of Douglas, GA; six grandchildren, Bridgete (Mario) Peterson, Mack (Adrianna) Smith, Lindsey Purvis, Amber Smith, Brandon (Dawn) Purvis, and Austin Smith; great grandchild, Waylen Smith; two sisters, Yvonne Brickle of Hawthorne, FL and Sheila (Bill) Coleman of Hawthorne, FL; sister-in-law, Mildred (Jimmy) Lake of Rincon, GA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge “Jaybird” Smith; sister, Frances “Teat” Young; and brother, Earnest “Buddy” McDowell.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m at Sims Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with Rev. Cliff Kirkland officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Byrd Church Cemetery.
