Belva Girtman Atkinson Lee died February 22, 2017 in Americus, Georgia. Born in Jeff Davis County, Georgia on January 3, 1919 to the late James Hendrix Girtman and Leona Brewer Girtman.
Belva grew up in Snipesville, Georgia and later moved to Broxton, Georgia where she lived her adult life.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn Atkinson Pope and George Edward Pope of Americus, Georgia; four grandchildren, Shara Lane Atkinson, Tom Byrd Atkinson III, Geoffrey Edward Pope, and Bradley Christopher Pope all of Atlanta; two step grandchildren, Michael Kennedy Flynn of New Jersey and Brian Patrick Flynn of St. Augustine, Florida. She was preceded in death by Husbands, Tom Byrd Atkinson, Sr. and Earl Jackson Lee; her son Tom Byrd Atkinson, Jr. and daughter-in-law Linda Hill Atkinson. Also preceding her in death were all of her eight sisters, Delora Hughes, Bonnie Kight, Lois Atkinson (Milton), Haven Foskey (Marshall), Dorothy Williams (Joseph), Jimmye Kight (John), Judy Hand (Herbert), and Miriam Tate (Thomas).
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 1:30 until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 24, 2017 in the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, Georgia with interment to follow in the Broxton Cemetery with Reverend Elick Bullington officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Broxton Baptist Church, Broxton Methodist Church, or Magnolia Manor League of the Good Samaritan, 2001 South Lee Street, Americus, Georgia 31709.
