Coffee County sheriff’s deputies arrested 47-year-old Tommy Lee Cooper late Saturday night, March 4, 2017 after Cooper allegedly shattered a windshield and caused other significant damage to a vehicle driven by a former girlfriend during an incident at a local convenience store.

Deputies were initially dispatched to Jet Foods, 2595 Highway 221 North, just after 11 p.m. Saturday in reference to an altercation on the premises. Authorities met the complainant at another location a short distance away.

The complainant stated Cooper had followed her from inside Jet Foods to the parking lot, where he proceeded to kick the driver’s side door as she was attempting to leave. Cooper then allegedly jumped on the hood of the vehicle and kicked the windshield, causing it to shatter. The complainant stated Cooper fell off the car as she exited the parking lot.

Deputies observed body damage to the hood of the car, along with obvious damage to the windshield and dents to the driver’s side door. The complainant’s testimony was verified by another occupant of the car, along with a store clerk.

Cooper was located walking a short distance away from the incident location. He initially denied involvement, but later admitted to kicking the vehicle and destroying the windshield. He was treated for minor injuries by emergency personnel and transported to the Coffee County Jail.

Cooper faces one charge of second degree criminal damage to property.
