In five autobiographical vignettes, Katherine N. LeRoy, under the direction of Katie Rasor Newell, will tell Charlayne Woodard’s moving tale of her African-American family through three generations of love, struggle, and triumph. Although this performance shares the personal life story of Woodard and her family — it offers universal experiences for its audience to thoroughly enjoy. This humorous and touching one-woman tour de force has won numerous theatre awards for Best Play and Best Playwright.

Choose from a performance on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at 6:30 pm in McGouirk Auditorium on the Douglas Campus or on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 6:30 pm in the Educational Building Auditorium on the Waycross Campus. Following each performance, a silent auction of art related items and a dessert reception will be held.

At SGSC, over 60 percent of students require financial assistance to attend college. Proceeds from the play and silent auction will provide scholarship assistance to students who are pursuing a degree in an art related field.  LeRoy comments, “As an institution of high learning, South Georgia State College values the arts and the role it plays in opening one’s mind and providing additional opportunities to culturally develop our students and community.” She adds, “This play is one example of how I can share my passion for the dramatic arts and raise awareness for the financial need of students in our region to obtain a college degree.”

A variety of sponsorships are available through the SGSC Foundation. As such, a portion of the donation is tax-deductible. General admission tickets are $25 each. SGSC faculty, staff, and students receive free admission. For more information, please contact Katherine LeRoy by phone at 334-797-1253 or by email at Katherine.LeRoy@sgsc.edu or Walda Kight by phone at 912-260-4274 or by email at walda.kight@sgsc.edu.
