The Southeast District Junior 4-H Spring Conference will be held at Camp Jekyll the weekend of April 28-29. Mrs. Liz Batten is assigned as one of the adult leaders to attend and will be chaperoning the trip. Cost is $78 for the Friday-Saturday event. Current 7th and 8th grade 4‑H members as well as 6th grade 4-H members who competed in DPA this year are eligible to sign up for this weekend activity. 4-H members should sign up as soon as possible if they are interested in attending.

Target Sports Update

The Coffee County 4-H BB team is getting ready to compete in the Area 4‑H Qualification Match in Pierce County on April 15th. Teams must shoot a qualifying score of 1550 to advance to the State 4-H Match at Rock Eagle on May 6th. Team members registered include: J.J. Aldridge, Abby Greer, Harleigh Hope, Allison Merritt, Caelan Merritt, Kameron Pennell, Nicholas Pennell, Mason Stewart, Huey Underhill, and Sara Vickers. Coaches include W.B. Merritt and Melissa Vickers with Nicole Taylor assisting. The archery, rifle, and pistol teams are practicing getting ready for their matches as well. They will all travel to Rock Eagle 4-H Center to compete in the State 4-H Match on April 29th. The shotgun team is preparing for their state match.  They will also travel to Savannah on May 27th and 28th to compete in the State 4-H Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clay Match. We want to wish all of our teams the best of luck as they compete this year.

Georgia 4-H Photo Contests

Each year, Georgia 4-H offers four contests for 4-H members who are interested in photography. Photos can be made with any type of camera that produces a negative or digital file. The images cannot be altered, but slight cropping, trimming, or red eye reduction are allowed. Entries for the photo contest must be uploaded and registered by the county 4-H staff no later than June 1st. (May 1st for points.) The four contests include Focus on Agriculture (farming related), Focus on 4‑H (4-H related), Focus on 4‑H Service (4-H community service related), and 4-H Photography Contest (any subject matter). Remember, the photos must be taken by the 4-H member who is submitting them. There are great opportunities to get photos year round in South Georgia, so take advantage of this opportunity and get some great photos to enter into this contest. Visit the Coffee County 4‑H website under web links for the photo contest rules.

Cloverleaf 4-H Day Camps Deadline Extended

Each summer, in addition to providing the traditional week of summer camp at one of the five 4-H camping facilities, we offer a few local day camps for Cloverleaf (4th-6th graders) 4-H members. This year, we are offering three activities for these students. The first one is called “Fun and Games” and will be held on Monday, June 5th. Cost for the activity is $20 and will include lunch. 4-H members will enjoy playing games, making crafts, cooking and eating delicious recipes, learning how to make and play their own musical instruments, and challenging themselves with puzzles (like the Rubik’s Cube).

The second day will be “A Day at Jekyll” on Tuesday, June 6th. This activity also costs $20 and includes some activities around Jekyll Island including a day at Summer Waves Water Park. Lunch will not be included on this day, so students can either pack a lunch or carry enough money to purchase lunch in the water park.

The third day is “Trip to Savannah” on Wednesday, June 7th. Cost is $30 and includes lunch, a tour of the Ronald McDonald House, a dolphin cruise around Tybee Island, and possibly (if time permits) some shopping time.

Sign up for these activities is underway. A deposit of half of the total activity fee is due at sign up. The registration deadline has been extended to Friday, April 7th. The balance of the fee is due by Friday, May 12th.

If you have questions about the Coffee County 4-H Club program, or questions around the farm or home, please feel free to contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402. Remember, we are YOUR local connection to the University of Georgia.
