Coffee County deputies have arrested a Douglas man on domestic violence charges after determining the offender beat his live-in girlfriend while she was sleeping.

Deputies responded to a residence off First Avenue South in the Oak Park community around 10:30 Monday night in reference to a domestic dispute. The  victim stated her boyfriend, 31-year-old Hilario Hernandez, jumped on her as she was sleeping, striking her several times on the head and other areas. Deputies observed injuries to the victim’s body consistent with her testimony, and Hernandez later admitted to striking the sleeping female. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene to provide treatment to the victim.

Officers arrested Hernandez and transported him to the Coffee County Jail, where he faces one charge of battery under the Family Violence Act.
