Shotgun Benefit Tournament

Some members of the senior 4-H shotgun team competed in the 15th Annual Champions of Hope Benefit Tournament at Green Lakes Hunting Club in Ocilla on April 22, 2017.  The benefit shoot is hosted to by Ruth’s Cottage and the Patticake House each year.  Barron Thomas and Huntington Smith each busted 94 out of 100 targets.  It was a great day of practice for all the shooters. The 4-H shotgun team is comprised of senior and junior team will compete in the 4-H State Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays Competition coming up on May 27–28 in Savannah.

Cloverleaf Camp Orientation Meeting

It’s only four and half weeks away from Cloverleaf 4-H camp at Rock Eagle. 4-H members who are signed up to attend are asked to attend the camp orientation meeting on Monday, May 15 at 6 PM in the conference room of the Coffee County Agricultural Center (4-H office). We also ask one parent attend the meeting with their child as we will collect necessary medical and conduct forms which will require parent’s signature. Summer camp for Cloverleaf 4-H members (grades 4-6) will be held at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center the week of June 12-16.

Deans Award Portfolios Due

Georgia 4-H members can compete in the Dean Awards competition by submitting a cumulative portfolio of their 4-H career. The five areas of competition include: Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Citizenship, Communications and the Arts, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Leadership. Award winners become Master 4-H’ers and receive a $500 scholarship. The portfolio entry deadline for Coffee County is Friday, May 19 by 4 PM. Interviews will be held on Friday, June 23 at Rock Eagle before the beginning of State 4-H Council. 4‑H members interested in this competition should start NOW preparing their portfolio and practicing their interviewing skills.

State Council Registration Deadline

Each summer, Georgia 4-H holds its annual meeting for the purpose of electing state officers and reviewing the state 4-H constitution. This meeting is called State Council and is held at Rock Eagle. The dates for this year’s State Council are June 23-25. Cost is $120 ($60 if you competed in DPA during the 2016-2017 school year) for the weekend. The event is open to current 8th – 12th grade 4-H members. This will cover meals from Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast, lodging for Friday and Saturday nights, and the weekend’s events. Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Please sign up as soon as possible if you are interested in attending this event.

Cloverleaf Summer Activity Payments Due

4-H members signed up for the Cloverleaf 4-H Summer Activities should turn in to the 4-H office any remaining balance on their fees by Friday, May 12.
