Russell D. Kirkland, age 85, of Douglas, GA passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017, at South Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Kirkland was born on December 4, 1931, in Douglas, GA to the late Marvin Kirkland and Sallie Lott Kirkland.

Survivors include: his son, Rusty (Peggy) Kirkland of Douglas, GA; daughter, Cheryl Kirkland (Vondal) Mathews of Douglas, GA; two brothers, Rufus Kirkland of Statesboro, GA and Thomas Kirkland of Douglas, GA; four grandchildren, Larissa (Carl) Davis, Daniel (Sarah) Kirkland, Carrie Redish, and Keith (Natalie) Mathews; six great-grandchildren, Hayden Redish, Ansley Redish, Reese Taylor, Cooper Taylor, Kaleb Davis, and Abner Davis; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Prue Reynolds Kirkland; grandson, Austin Mullis; and a sister, Mary Willis Sellers.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Lone Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Ann Braswell officiating. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
