Due to Unison Behavioral Health discontinuing to provide the service of cardboard pick up and baling, the City of Douglas will immediately be collecting the wire baskets from those participating businesses throughout town. The City of Douglas is aware that there is an overflow of cardboard litter as a result of the service interruption, and the City is willing to help transition customers over to Transwaste.

“We appreciate every citizen and business who utilized the wire baskets for recycling cardboard to help our environment,” says City Manager Terrell Jacobs. “The business that formerly helped pick up the cardboard and baled the cardboard, can no longer provide that public service. Unfortunately, until an alternative solution is made, we will regretfully have to pick up the wire baskets and discontinue collection of cardboard.”

The City plans to seek a contractor who will be available to provide cardboard pick up and baling services. If a citizen or business would like to continue recycling cardboard, please contact Transwaste to provide a dumpster until a plan for collecting and recycling cardboard is established. If you have any questions, please contact the City Manager’s Office at 912-389-3401 or the Public Works Department at 912-389-3450 regarding this action to address the litter on our public right of ways.
