Back in January, Coffee County Junior and Senior 4-H members participated in the District Project Achievement at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center. During the weekend, Southeast District Junior and Senior 4-H members voted and elected their 2017-2018 Southeast District Junior and Senior 4-H Board of Directors.

Coffee County had five young men and ladies elected to these two boards. On the Junior Board of Directors, Alexandra Rivero and Ishika Sadarangani were both elected to serve as vice-presidents and Amelia Crockett board member of the Junior 4-H Board of Directors and T.K. McIver was elected vice-president and Willie Spence board member of the Senior 4-H Board of Directors. These five students will serve throughout the upcoming year in planning district events, serving as leaders as these events, and presiding over the assemblies for all of the district 4-H events.

To begin their year off, these five students, along with the rest of the district officers from all four districts in Georgia, will attend the Georgia 4-H Officer Training. This event will be held June 21-23 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center. Sixty-four district officers from across the state will meet, make new friends, bond with their district boards, and learn their responsibilities as leaders for these boards.

We want to congratulate these officers and wish them the best of luck as their serve their fellow 4-H members in these leadership roles for the next 12 months.

 State 4-H Horse Show

Perry, Georgia, will be buzzing with horse flies (and a lot of people and horses) as the State 4‑H Horse Show will be held there at the Georgia National Fairgrounds starting Monday, June 12 and running through Saturday, June 17. Coffee County will be well represented with over 20 4‑H members competing in various competitions throughout the week.

4-H members registered to compete include Ashley Clement, Elizabeth Crews, Cody Davis, Emily Freeman, Cody Hayes, Morgan Hodges, Lacey Lewis, Piper Maass, Makenzie Martin, Maleah Martin, Amelia Miller, Allie Morgan, Jadyn Nugent, Madison Payne, Cassie Jo Perkins, Haley Redden, Drew Solomon, Erin Tucker, Emma Tyre, Anna Unger, Abbi Vaughn, Kali Yates, and Cloe Yeomans. These 4-H members learn their skills at various trainer’s farms, but Mrs. Sandra Sears gives leadership to the 4-H Horse Club and has for more than 25 years now. She gets a lot of help from other 4-H volunteers and especially the Extension office secretary, Mrs. Lisa Craigue. She has worked for many years assisting Mrs. Sears in coordinating Horse Club meetings, keeping records, and registering students for horse events. Mrs. Sears and Mrs. Craigue have made a great team to help provide educational opportunities for students interested in horses.

We want to wish all of these students the best of luck as they compete in the State 4-H Horse Show. There is not fee to watch these horse shows, so if you are in the Perry area that week, stop by and support these 4-H members in their endeavors.

If you have questions about the Coffee County 4-H Club program, or questions around the farm or home, please feel free to contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402. Remember, we are YOUR local connection to the University of Georgia.
