Ms. Laverne Spivey Wright Mercer Smith, age 82, of Douglas, GA passed away Saturday morning, June 10, 2017 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, following a brief illness. Ms. Smith was born October 15, 1934 to the late Jerry Spivey and the late Grace Whitley Spivey. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her three husbands, John Wright, Dave Mercer and Aldine Smith; brother, James Spivey and step-son, Carl David Mercer.

Ms. Smith was retired from Spectrum Apparel where she had worked as a seamtress for 35 years. She was also a member of West Ward Church of God.

Survivors include: Son Dennis (Linda) Wright of Douglas, GA; grandchildren: Jonathan (Shanlee) Wright and Amie (Dr. Chad) Fussell both of Douglas, GA; great grandchildren: Cheyenne (Brandon) Doyle of Pearson, GA, Kinlee Wright, Sydnie Fussell and Ben Fussell all of Douglas, GA; brother: Rev. Leroy (Elma) Spivey of Douglas, GA; sisters: Ruby (Louis) Harper of Douglas, GA and Madeline (Lavon) Jones of Valdosta, GA; step-son: Pete (Dorothy) Mercer of St. Mary’s, GA; step-daughters: Bessy (Wilton) Spivey, Bonnie Holton and Anita Douglas all of Douglas, GA; step daughter-in-law: Kitty Mercer of Douglas, GA; several nieces and nephews who loved her so very much.

The funeral service will be Tuesday morning, June 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at West Ward Church of God with Rev. Leroy Spivey officiating. The interment will follow at Tanner Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Monday evening, June 12, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Ricketson Funeral Home.

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
