Earlier Tuesday, a pair of inmates shot and killed two prison guards during transport and escaped. The incident happened in Putnam County — the county in which 4-H’s Camp Rock Eagle is located. Currently, a number of Coffee County students are at Rock Eagle enjoying a week of camp.

Following the incident, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry contacted the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office to assure local citizens that the students at Rock Eagle are safe and being monitored by his agency.

“We have deputies stationed at the camp as a precautionary measure,” Berry said. “If your child is there, I assure you he or she is just fine and having fun.”
The two escaped inmates are identified as 43 year-old Donnie Russell Rowe and 24 year-old Ricky DuBose. They are possibly driving a green Honda Civic with Georgia license plate RBJ 6601.

Any contact with these individuals or vehicle should be reported to 911 immediately.
