On June 12, 2017, at the regular City Commission meeting, the Mayor and Commission moved forward with a resolution to establish a City Marshal’s office. Due to changes in state laws and regulation, the City Marshal’s Office will be established as its own agency/department.
Revisions to the Marshal/Code Enforcement Office City Ordinance were made in October 2007 which mandated the Marshal/Code Enforcement Officer be P.O.S.T. certified and have powers of arrest. By creating the City Marshal’s office, the staff will receive its own GCIC Agency ID number which will allow the office to permit alcoholic beverage licenses, vehicle registrations, and other code enforcement related information without going through the Police Department.
The City Marshal’s office will also be eligible to apply for and receive grant funding. For more information about the Marshal/Code Enforcement Department, please call 912-389-3462.
