On Tuesday, August 1, 2017, from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., Douglas neighborhoods are invited to join other communities throughout the United States for the “34th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event at Central Square Complex. National Night Out will involve over 16,500 communities from all 50 states, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38.5 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime”.
The National Night Out Against Crime will feature a free concert by gospel rapper “B-Shoc” at 6:30 p.m. at Central Square Complex. Attendees can register for drawings for free tablets as well as a free pizza party for a Church youth group during the concert. The Douglas Police Department will push initiative such as “Lights On, Means Lights Out For Crime” and provide National Child Identification kits. Another great feature of the night will be the Summer Beach Bash located in the vacant lot adjacent to City Hall. Public safety vehicle displays, Fire Department educational “Hot House”, K-9 demonstrations, waterslides, sand pit, pony rides, Knockerball, facepainting, and more fun – all in one night for our community to enjoy.
“This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity,” says National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin. “National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in
our fight to build a safer nation. On NNO, we invite neighborhoods to join us in giving crime and drugs a going away party.”
