The Coffee County Junior and Senior 4-H members had the opportunity to participate in two summer programs this year. The first was a day trip to the Ichetucknee Springs State Park in Ft. White, Florida, on Wednesday, July 12th. This state park offers an opportunity to tube down a slow moving spring water river. The park has three locations to put in the river and two take out points. They also offer swimming in the two springs that form the river. Everyone enjoyed this activity.

The second activity was a trip to Atlanta for the weekend of July 14th – 16th. On Friday, we went straight to Stone Mountain Park. At the park, everyone could ride the train around the mountain, take the skylift to the top of the mountain, and do all of the activities around Memorial Hall. Due to a lightning storm, we were unable to stay for the laser show. On Saturday, we went to Dave and Busters for some games and lunch. Then it was on to SunTrust Park and the Atlanta Braves baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was 4-H Night at the Braves Game and Georgia 4-H’s Clovers & Co., which included Willie Spence from Coffee County, performed the National Anthem from centerfield. The game was very enjoyable, even from the general admission seats on the fourth deck. A foul ball even landed in the section right next to where we were all sitting.

On Sunday, we took a driving tour of downtown Atlanta which included seeing a little of Georgia Tech’s campus, the state capitol, Georgia Dome, CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park and more. Then it was off to Athens for a tour of the University of Georgia campus. After some time in the UGA bookstore, we headed back to south Georgia.

Everyone had a great time and enjoyed Ichetucknee Springs, Atlanta, and Athens.

If you have questions about the Coffee County 4-H Club program, or questions around the farm or home, please feel free to contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402. Remember, we are YOUR local connection to the University of Georgia.
