It’s official. Sudhakar Jonnalagadda, MD is the newly elected Executive Secretary of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI). AAPI is the largest ethnic background after the American Medical Association. Clearly, Dr. Jonnalagadda is on a winning streak. He’s also President-Elect of Medical Staff at Coffee Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Jonnalagadda, gastroenterologist (digestive disease specialist) and transplant hepatologist (liver transplant specialist), brings his passion for patient care, teaching and research to his new position as Secretary of AAPI.

This achievement is the latest addition to a professional CV that includes a lengthy list of distinguished titles including Director, Coffee County Center for Digestive Diseases and American Gastroenterology Association Fellow.

Dr. Jonnalagadda sees this as an opportunity to serve the community and at the national level and promote the contributions of Yoga as well as allopathic medicine.

“I’m grateful to the AAPI. It is an honor to have this opportunity to promote professional solidarity among physicians of Indian origin.”

Dr. Jonnalagadda was born in Guntur, India in the coastal state of Andhra Pradesh. He received his medical degree from Rangaraya Medical College in Kakinda, India in 1980. From there, he has gone on to teach and practice in universities and hospitals all over the world including Vienna, Lagos, New York City, Pittsburgh, Miami and Hamburg.

Dr. Jonnalagadda brought his outstanding experience, skills and talents here to Douglas in 1999. He has been Director, Coffee County Center for Digestive Diseases since 2004.
