The City of Douglas has contacted the Department of Transportation for an update in regards to the double culvert construction and detour that began on June 12, 2017. According to D.O.T., the installation of the culverts at the intersection of Gaskin Avenue and the Perimeter Road (U.S. 221/SR 135) is complete. Construction of new culverts was ,necessary to accommodate the widening of the perimeter road and the stream that runs underneath Gaskin Avenue. The culvert construction area still needs to be paved. Weather permitting, Gaskin Avenue may reopen by Friday, August 11. Should paving take longer, the detour may be extended, as the contractor is permitted to close the road for 90 days.

The City of Douglas apologizes for any inconvenience drivers may experience and would like business owners to know the contractor is working diligently to complete the culvert construction area/paving in a timely manner.
