The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association held its 22nd Annual District II Award Banquet on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 that was held in Camden County. Willis Crockett, Parks and Recreation Assistant Director and Ronnie Bullock, were recognized for their work in the Parks and Recreation field.

Crockett was awarded the Roger Johnson Award. The Roger Johnson award was established within GRPA in 2015, after Mr. Johnson’s death. The description of the award reads: “In every generation, a few individuals step forward to assume the reins of leadership and service in providing for the needs of the youth of our nation. These men and women give freely of their time, energy and talents to ensure that our youth are treated with honesty, fairness, and dedication in their endeavors. Such a man was Roger Johnson. Roger spent many of his years providing outstanding service as a director of recreational services and was highly respected by athletes, coaches, parents, and peers alike. He left a legacy of service that will stand as a beacon for those who follow for years to come. This award is presented in honor of Roger Johnson. This award recognizes an outstanding individual in meeting these high standards set by Mr. Roger Johnson in the field of recreational administration and life.” Willis has been employed with the Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation Department for since April 2005.

Bullock received the James Edo “Sonny” Miller award. The James Edo “Sonny” Miller award was established to honor excellence in Athletic Programming. The description of the award reads: “In the recreation field for over 40 years, Sonny Miller served as the Director in Brunswick for 30 years, even serving the dual role for both Brunswick and Glynn County in 1989. He was a founding member of the GRPA athletic committee and served as chairman for four terms.” Ronnie has been employed with the Recreation Department since August 2005.

Congratulations to both of these outstanding employees of the Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation Department.
