The Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce is kicking off a Leadership Coffee Youth Academy for the 2017-18 School Year in partnership with Coffee Middle School. FNB South is the Presenting Sponsor for the Youth Academy.

The program, similar to the annual Leadership Coffee program sponsored by the Chamber, is for seventh grade students who commit themselves to a seven-month project to become better leaders in Coffee County by seeing key aspects of community development first-hand. Although the program is geared toward community and economic development, participants are equipped with resources that will help in everyday life, build our community and instill leadership skills.

“Community and economic development can be a complicated practice, but the Leadership Coffee Youth Academy helps connect the dots, creating a picture for students to see the scope of progress,” states Stanley Lott, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. “Our Chamber Board is passionate about leadership in our community.”

Whether it is a trip to Atlanta to meet with the State’s Economic Development partners or gaining insight into local initiatives, the Leadership Coffee Youth Academy is designed to give a comprehensive view of the community’s assets and challenges.

If your child is interested in applying to be a part of the Leadership Coffee Youth Academy, please obtain an application from the front office at Coffee Middle School (CMS) or contact Vette Stern, 7th Grade Principal at CMS. Only ten students will be allowed into the pilot program this year.

Program cost is $150 per student (includes all classrooms, speakers, travel, class materials, and meals, plus a two-day event which includes lodging and meals). Applications are due by September 8. Scholarships for the program are available.

The Chamber is also seeking business sponsorships for this program. Please contact Vette Stern 912-389-6656 (CMS) or Mesha Davis 912-384-1873 (Chamber) about supporting a child.
