Joe C. Woodward, age 93, of Douglas, GA passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Woodward was born on May 23, 1924, in Barnwell, SC to the late Thomas Oscar Woodward and Evie Robinson Woodward. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dot Woodward; son, Carlos Woodward; son-in-law, Bobby Sears; granddaughter, Angie Sears Merritt; and brothers: Wade Woodward, Gene Woodward, and Wallace Woodward.
Survivors include: his daughters: Jean (Bobby) Long of Tallahassee, FL and Jane Sears of Douglas, GA; daughter-in-law, Montez Woodward of Douglas, GA; grandchildren: Greg (Allison) Woodward of Willacoochee, GA, Robbie (Jennifer) Long of Cairo, GA, Keith (Missy) Woodward of Douglas, GA, Lou Long of Tallahassee, FL, and Carla (Archie) Rish of Douglas, GA; great grandchildren: Kayla Merritt (Jason) Whiddon, Christopher (Raquel) Merritt, Jenna Long, Carter Woodward, Claire Woodward, Evie Woodward, Hogan Woodward, Heidi Woodward, Brody Rish, Nate Rish, and Trace Cone; great-great grandchildren: Embry Whiddon, Eason Whiddon, Carson Merritt, and Reina Merritt; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at College Avenue Baptist Church where Rev. Mark Mercer officiated. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery.
