Dobson ‘Dobbie’ Bennett

Mr. Dobson “Dobbie” Bennett, age 83, of Douglas passed away Tuesday morning, August 29, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Bennett was born August 30, 1933 to the late Wilson Conner Bennett and the late Effie Mae Herrin Bennett. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Benton; son, Darryl Bennett; step-sons: Billy Merritt, Gary Merritt and Randy Stone and grandson, Van Tanner Carter, Jr.

Mr. Bennett was a native of Millwood, GA. He had been employed with the City of Douglas Water Department as a Dispatcher. In his spare time, he loved gardening and he was also an avid fisherman. Mr. Bennett was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith.

Survivors include: his wife: Mrs. Carolyn Yarberry Bennett of Douglas, GA; daughters: Kathy (Van) Carter, Marie (Mark) Holder both of Douglas, GA and Brenda (Scott) Russell of Waycross, GA; son, Dobson Glen Smith of Mershon, GA; step-daughter: Peggy Stone Lott of Douglas, GA; step-daughters-in-law: Shirley Stone of West Green, GA and Tonnie Merritt Holder of Douglas, GA; brother, Jackie Bennett of Douglas, GA; 19 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Rachael Sutton of Douglas, GA; special nieces: Melissa Bennett, Patty Smith, Jennifer Rice and Jessica Bennett all of Douglas, GA.

The funeral service will be, Friday morning, September 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. at The Sanctuary on Waldroup Avenue, with Rev. Bob Powell officiating. The interment will follow in Satilla Memorial Gardens.

The family will be receiving friends on Thursday evening, August 31, 2017, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Ricketson Funeral Home. 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
