Jean Hursey, age 82, of Douglas, Ga. passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017, following a brief illness. Mrs. Hursey was born on May 11, 1935 in Douglas, Ga. to the late Cliff Merritt and Myrtice Moon Merritt Williams.
Survivors include: her daughters: Judy (Allen) Vickers of Broxton, Ga. and Patsy Moore and the late Keith Moore of Broxton, Ga.; grandchildren: Wendy (Jim) Jowers, Becky (Mark) Elliott, Carrie (Allen) Hull, Holly (Shane) Jordan, Amy (Brian) Vining, Kelly (Kevin) Gilliard, Jay (Ashley) Vickers, Kady (Jake) Stewart, Nathan (Emily) Moore, and Jason (Selena) Vickers; great-grandchildren: Madison Jowers, Collins Jowers, Luke Elliott, Anna Elliott, Chloe Hull, Ellie Hull, Andrew Jordan, Kate Jordan, Gant Vining, Gabe Vining, Kylee Brooke Gilliard, David Allen Vickers, Landon Stewart, Megan Vickers, Amber Vickers, and Kathrine Vickers; sisters: June Waldron, Phyllis (Troy) Burch, Connie McNeese, and LaDonna (Kenneth) Foshee; brothers: Ted (Elaine) Sills, Fritz Merritt, and Glenn Merritt; friend, Joe Rowan; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Hank” Hursey; father, J.T. Sills; son-in-law, Keith Moore; sister, Mary Annis Peterson; and brothers: Rev. Earl Merritt, Timothy Sills, and Thad Sills.
Funeral Service was held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. at West Ward Street Church of God where Rev. Britt Peavey and Rev. Leroy Spivey officiated. Interment followed at Tanner Baptist Church Cemetery.
Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
