Suffering through severe weather and blackouts in a community can bring out the best in our neighbors. Unfortunately, it can also bring out the worst.

A 59-year-old Coffee County man was jailed this week after he decided he’d had enough of hearing his neighbor’s generator and thought it would be a good idea to fire a few gunshots in protest.

Coffee County deputies responded to a residence off Keven Adam Rd. initially in reference to an intoxicated person. The complainant stated his neighbor, identified as Steven Consado Gomez, Jr., had fired multiple gunshots in the area because he was mad about the complainant’s power generator running throughout the day.

While speaking to the complainant, deputies heard another gunshot originating from the area of Gomez’s residence and made contact with the offender. Gomez stated he was upset because he was tired of hearing the complainant’s generator. He admitted to firing the gunshots as a reaction to his frustration.

A check of Gomez’s criminal history revealed he was a convicted felon, currently serving a sentence on probation. He was arrested at the scene and transported to the Coffee County Jail, where he faces two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
