What good could two men, dressed in black and lurking around a package store in the early morning hours, possibly be doing? Probably not much.

This was the scene around 4:30 a.m. Friday when a Coffee County patrol deputy observed two individuals outside Bag’s Package Store off U.S. Highway 221 North in the Oak Park community. The deputy turned his vehicle around and attempted to make contact with the men, at which point they each fled on foot in separate directions. The deputy began searching the area and located one of the suspects hiding in some bushes at a residence near Mahogany Road.

The suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Dereck Shawn Porter, again attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. Porter was arrested at the scene and transported to the Coffee County Jail. He has been charged with loitering and obstruction of law enforcement.
