Betty Lou Thurman, age 86, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Suwannee Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Live Oak, Fla. Ms. Thurman was born on June 23, 1931, in Live Oak, Florida to the late Jessie and Ruby Elizabeth Clark Hart.
Survivors include: sisters: Dorothy Mae Hill of Hatchbend, Fla. and Barbara Pellow of Live Oak, Fla.; brother, Oscar L “BO” and his wife Sandra Hart of Live Oak, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Thurman; parents: Jessie and Ruby Clark Hart; and brother, Colin Hart.
Ms. Betty spent most of her retirement years tending to her lawn and flowers, baking goodies for the city police and crocheting “masterpieces” for friends and family. Although she was confined to a wheelchair, no task was too hard. She took pride in her work and was always willing to share with others. We all loved her and will miss her beautiful smile.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Sims Chapel where Rev. Mark Mercer officiatied. Song selection was: “You Can’t Walk Unless Jesus Holds Your Hand,” “I’ll Fly Away” both by CD. Lois Mills played prelude and postlude on the piano. Honorary pallbearers were: Don Stokes and Victor Kirkland.
Interment followed at Satilla Memorial Gardens.
Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
