Dr. Travis James Ouzts Jr., age 87, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at his residence. Dr. Ouzts was born on July 6, 1930, in Douglas, Georgia to the late Travis James Ouzts, Sr. and Maudelle Elizabeth Ouzts.

Dr. Ouzts was a retired educator, having worked in many positions, from teacher to superintendent during his career. He was a loving Christian husband and father, who enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, and traveling to Florida.

Survivors include: his wife of 67 years, Bettye Jo Ouzts of Douglas, Ga; daughters: Kathryn Corley and her husband Wayne of Fayetteville, Ga; Mary Kay Strickland and fiancé Phil Schlenk of Lawrenceville, Ga; son, Travis James Ouzts, III (Jim) and his wife Dorinda of Albany, Ga; grandchildren: Anthony Corley, Amber Corley, Jonathan Ouzts, Caralyn Hunter (Cara) and Kathryn Strickland (Liz); great-grandchildren: Addyson Corley, Cason Corley, Riley Ouzts, and Amelia Ouzts.

The funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with Rev. Shep Johnson officiating.

Interment to follow at the Douglas City Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
