Local American Legion Post, 18 and 515, brings Wreaths Across America to veterans of Coffee County. The wreath ceremony will take place at Douglas City Cemetery on December 16, 2017, at Noon.

The goal of Post 515 is to place a wreath on every veteran’s grave across the county. Each year, citizens of the community are encouraged to support veterans in December by placing a flag and wreath on every veteran’s grave in Coffee County. The mission of the ceremony is “Remember-Honor-Teach.”

According to American Legion Posts 18 and 515, donations are requested for flag and wreaths. There are over 2,400 veterans and 59 cemeteries. There’s an opportunity to sponsor a wreath for $15 or an entire cemetery and all donations are tax deductible. Payments in the form of checks should be made out and mailed to American Legion Post 51, Inc P.O. BOX 2094 Douglas, and GA. 31534.

American Legion Post 515 is requesting those family members of deceased veterans to sponsor a personal wreath and include the name of the cemetery and veteran. Churches, schools and local businesses are encouraged to sponsor wreaths and take part in the flag lying and wreath ceremony.

The deadline for all donations is November 15, 2017, and flags will be placed on December 7, 2017.

American Legion Post 515, INC will also host a Christmas giveaway on December 23, 2017, as another way to raise money for Wreaths Across America. Tickets are one for $5 or three for $10. Everyone is eligible to win and you don’t have to be present to win. First prize is a Remington 783 with scope, a Remington 870 pump or a Smith & Wesson 9mm. Second prize winner will win $50 in cash.
