The Pre-K students at Eastside Elementary recently enjoyed their first field trip of the year. The students loaded up a Coffee County School Bus driven by Mrs. Wanda Burkett and headed to Rutland’s Farm for a day of fun and exploration. The children arrived and went to the Petting Zoo to feed the various animals. Feeding goats, running with rabbits and watching a 700 pound hog eat bread and drink a soda was the first adventure of the day. Next the students and the parents/guardians/grandparents attending climbed aboard a large covered wagon and enjoyed a hay ride around the farm crops. The covered wagon stopped at the large lake and the students enjoyed feeding the fish and ducks.

Arriving back at the pumpkin site, the students went through the field and selected their very special pumpkin to decorate and turn into a jack-o-lantern. After all pumpkins were decorated the Rutland Crew took the students through the storyland corn maze with the them the Wizzard of Oz. The students had to look at pictures on their map to find certain Oz items throughout the maze. The highlight was finding Dorothy’s ruby red shoes! Finally the children were ready for a large picnic lunch prepared by the Eastside Eagles Café’ and homemade ice-cream shared by the staff at Rutlands. Soon it was time to load the bus to return to Eastside Elementary. “Thank you” to all parents/grandparents /guardians and Uncles who joined us and helped out on our first Pre-K field trip. We appreciate you! It was another great day in Coffee Pre-K!
