To kick-off the Holiday Season, the City of Douglas, along with many local community agencies, are hosting a community wide musical celebration and toy drive. The Community Thanksgiving Spectacular will be held on Saturday, November 18, beginning at 5 p.m. A combination of events will take place downtown beginning at the Martin Centre with a community musical and toy drive at 5 p.m., followed by a Tree Lighting Ceremony at Atkinson Plaza.

“This event is a collaborative event with community agencies to kick-off our holiday season,” says Mayor Paulk. “We need our community to support this event. Everyone is invited to come out and donate a toy for the children and enjoy an evening of entertainment.”

Community leaders have planned a holiday program with musical selections from community choirs under the direction of Commissioner Kentaiwon Durham. Expressions Dance Studio and On Your Toes Dance Studio will provide holiday dance selections from their upcoming holiday dance recitals. Suggested entry to the Musical at the Martin Centre will be a $10 donation or a new $10 unwrapped child’s toy. After the Musical, everyone will move to Atkinson Plaza for the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree.

Special thanks to Southwire, Georgia State Patrol, CSRA Probation Services, Douglas Police Department, Douglas Fire Department, and other community agencies for their contribution to this community event. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at Douglas Fire Department (306 E. Cherry Street), Douglas Police Department (225 W. Bryan Street), City Hall (224 E. Bryan Street), or the Public Information Department (211 S. Gaskin Avenue).

To make a monetary donation, make checks payable to: City of Douglas Memo: Community Toy Drive, 211 S. Gaskin Avenue, Douglas, Georgia or please stop by the Douglas Visitor Information Center located at 211 S. Gaskin Avenue. For more information, please call 912-384-4815 or 912-384-2222.
