Major (Ret.) Basil Neil Morris, age 85, of Columbia, SC passed away on December 26, 2017, at Palmetto Health Richland  Hospital. Major Morris was born on February 14, 1932, in Douglas, GA to the late Edwin W. Morris and O’Lena Summerlin Morris.

Survivors include: his daughter, Sheree Morris of Hilton Head Island, SC; son, Mark Morris of Columbia, SC; granddaughters: Dana Morris (Chris) Browy of Lexington, SC and Jamie Neil Morris of Columbia, SC; great-grandson, Rucker Browy of Lexington, SC; brother, James “Billy” Morris (Ginny) of Payson, AZ; sister, Anne (Bobby) Peterson of Douglas, GA; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Marilyn Geraldine Harper Morris; his parents: Edwin W. Morris and O’Lena Summerlin Morris; and a brother, Edwin “Ed” Morris, Jr.

Graveside Service with full Military Honors will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at St. Illa Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Mark Mercer officiating.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
